Newton Academy Restoration Corp. Website

The Academy is a town-owned building, the former town school, overseen by the Selectboard. It sits high on a hill west of the Green and currently houses a pre-school and the Shorewell Clinic.

For a number of years, volunteer members of the Newton Academy Restoration Committee dedicated themselves to raising funds for the restoration of the Newton Academy building. Through grants, fund-raisers, and a tax-funded budget, the committee successfully raised funds for several long-needed major repairs. The committee engaged architectural services to draw up plans for a phased project which is ongoing—next comes work on the foundation.

Early in 2009 the committee formed a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation to use as a fund-raising vehicle; it was felt that a greater number of grant sources would be available to them. Their website offers a number of items for sale, with proceeds going toward the building fund.
